Adaptation

Adaptation began with a simple form: a ceramic cylinder with spoons attached to its body. As the series developed, each spoon began to respond differently to the form it encountered. Some bend or twist, some move around the body, while others remain close to it or appear to pull away. These different responses reflect the ways in which we adapt to new situations. Adaptation requires change, but we do not all change in the same way. Sometimes we bend slightly; sometimes we alter our direction completely. We may find a comfortable way to fit in, or we may resist the process. At the centre of this series is a question: How much can we adapt before we become something different? I do not attempt to answer this question through the work. Instead, each piece represents a different way of responding, changing, and trying to find a place within a new form.
