Artist holding a vessel

Behnaz Alizadeh

I am drawn to forms that appear to be in the middle of becoming—shifting, adapting, or responding to what surrounds them.

Much of my work begins with observations of nature: the way surfaces are shaped over time, how structures bend without losing themselves, and how change leaves visible traces. I often begin a piece on the wheel, using the initial thrown form as a structure rather than a final shape. By altering it and introducing new elements, I allow the form to gradually find its own direction.

My practice explores transformation. Rather than searching for perfect forms, I am interested in forms that reveal what they have been through.
